Ballina Hot Meal Centre in the Masonic Hall Ballina is a Heart Safe Place with an AED on-site
Beatrice Gray, Perry Wells and the team at the Hot Meal Centre in Ballina recently completed AED awareness training to find out how to use a defibrillator and a session called “What To Do Until The Ambulance Arrives” which is a free program for volunteer groups providing community awareness CPR and First Aid Training in Ballina with International Paramedic College Ballina. They wanted an AED for their workplace that was easy to use as a public access defibrillator for the many organisations that use the Masonic Hall in Ballina. We were happy to help them out as they provide an invaluable volunteer service for the Ballina community. If you are down on your luck it is great that people care for others, we all can use a little support at times when we are in need. Our staff educator Craig Nolan demonstrated to us how to use an AED in Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and how to deal with other life threatening emergencies until the ambulance arrives. They are first aid skills we all hope we never need to use but now Ballina has another heart safe location where you can find an AED, at the Ballina Hot Meal Centre in Cherry Street Ballina.
The success rate of CPR and early Defibrillation is important to us here at International Paramedic College. Effective CPR and a shock from a defibrillator can make all the difference in a cardiac event.
